Workshop on Geographical Collections

RGS-IBG, Wednesday 18 November 2009

This AHRC-funded workshop brought together researchers and professionals with shared interests in geographical collections - broadly defined as those collections organized by, or focused on, place, travel and exploration. The workshop explored research being currently undertaken and potential new directions in the use of such collections, covering a wide range of materials including maps, visual art, photography, film, artefacts, published books and journals. Participants included academics and curators from the UK, USA, Canada, France and Australia.

Founded in 1830, the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) is a world centre for geography: supporting research, education, fieldwork & expeditions, and promoting public engagement and informed enjoyment of our world.

The Exhibition was open between 15 October and 10 December 2009, in London at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG).

The Exhibition is available online and also in the form of a travelling exhibition.
